GSelector XML - radio scheduling

I'm the station manager of a college radio station. We use music scheduling software called GSelector to program our broadcast day.

The software generates a playlist for the deejays based on categories of music that are filled by me & the music director.

The day's schedule can be exported into an XML file, but the file seems totally useless to me. I can't write an XSLT stylesheet that will do ANYTHING with it.

I really just want to design a simple page that contains a schedule grid, instead of having to export the logs in a PDF format like I do now. I plan to use a PHP page to make it easy to pull up the day's schedule, and I want to use this XML format so I can customize what the deejays see when they pull up the schedule.

I just can't seem to write an XSLT stylesheet that will recognize any of the fields in the XML file.

Here are both files, the XML exported by GSelector and a very simple XSLT page that I wrote to try to recognize one of the fields, with no luck:

Help?

grouping in xslt as a single node instead of group of nodes

Hi,

I have my xml like below

<compType>
<round roundNumber =1 name"xyz">
<fixture fixtureId="1063" status="NotStarted" >
</round>
<round roundNumber =1 name"dgb">
<fixture fixtureId="334" status="NotStarted" >
</round>
<round roundNumber =2 name"dgb">
<fixture fixtureId="334" status="NotStarted" >
</round>
</compType>

I know I can group the rounds with the same round number but still that group is returning a group of round nodes. But I want just one round node with all child elements of all rounds are copied into one whose round numbers are same such as below

<compType>
<round roundNumber =1 name"xyz">
<fixture fixtureId="1063" status="NotStarted" >
<fixture fixtureId="334" status="NotStarted" >
</round>
<round roundNumber =2 name"dgb">
<fixture fixtureId="334" status="NotStarted" >
</round>
</compType>

Your help will be highly appriciated

Thanks,
Working directly with Designer to adhere to established look and feel
Optimizing CSS style implementation utilizing global CSS files as well as custom isolated CSS files - whichever works best.
Making sure front end is rendering .NET content properly and playing nice.

Some questions about DTDs

I have recently developed a functioning knowledge of how to do the basics of XML, mostly building InDesign templates. The DTD is something that I like to put into my template so that all my tags are readily available. I am having some issues with the validation of the DTD, and would like some feedback on the structure. Here is a sample

<!ELEMENT Root (Story+)>
<!ELEMENT Story (title?, artist?, Fsize1?, Fsize2?, Fsku?, Fprice1?, Fprice2?, Usize1?, Usize2?, Usku?, Uprice1?, Uprice2?)>
<!ELEMENT title (#PCDATA)>
<!ELEMENT artist (#PCDATA)>
<!ELEMENT Fsize1 (#PCDATA)>
<!ELEMENT Fsize2 (#PCDATA)>
<!ELEMENT Fsku (#PCDATA)>
<!ELEMENT Fprice1 (#PCDATA)>
<!ELEMENT Fprice2 (#PCDATA)>
<!ELEMENT Usize1 (#PCDATA)>
<!ELEMENT Usize2 (#PCDATA)>
<!ELEMENT Usku (#PCDATA)>
<!ELEMENT Uprice1 (#PCDATA)>
<!ELEMENT Uprice2 (#PCDATA)>

It brings in my tags, but once I import the XML dataset the DTD will not validate. I cannot find anything about it on the web as far as it relates to InDesign, and I have followed syntax including Version Declarations etc...to no avail. I also am unable to actually change the name of the Root, thus I have just named it Root here. Do I need to declare an AttList for my elements to make this function properly?

Sampe of dataset structure:

<Root>
<Story><title Type="String"></title>, <artist Type="String"></artist>
framed <Fsize1 Type="Inches">"</Fsize1> x <Fsize2 Type="Inches">"</Fsize2> #<Fsku Type="Number"></Fsku> <Fprice1 Type="Dollars">$</Fprice1> <Fprice2 Type="Dollars">$</Fprice2>
unframed <Usize1 Type="Inches">"</Usize1> x <Usize2 Type="Inches">"</Usize2> #<Usku Type="Number"></Usku> <Uprice1 Type="Dollars">$</Uprice1> <Uprice2 Type="Dollars">$</Uprice2>
</Story>
</Root>

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

selecting raw xml using XSLT?

Hi Folks -

I'm a bit embarrased to post this question but here goes:

How do you select the raw xml using XSLT & XPath rather than the values of the nodes.
I'm combining two XML documents using XSLT, and thus far have only found ways to
select and insert the value of elements.

For instance, I want to take the entire "molecule" xml fragment (including all the child
xml) from a doc like this:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
<molecule>
<moleculeName>STEP_1</moleculeName>
<atom>
<atomNumber>1</atomNumber>
<atomName>C1</atomName>
<atomicNumber>6</atomicNumber>
<residueName>S5H</residueName>
<residueNumber>1</residueNumber>
<coordinates>
<x>-19.608999252319336</x>
<y>43.21200180053711</y>
<z>-15.092000007629395</z>
</coordinates>
<symUnique>true</symUnique>
</atom>
<atom>
<atomNumber>2</atomNumber>
<atomName>C2</atomName>
<atomicNumber>6</atomicNumber>
<residueName>S5H</residueName>
<residueNumber>1</residueNumber>
<coordinates>
<x>-18.284000396728516</x>
<y>42.928001403808594</y>
<z>-15.878000259399414</z>
</coordinates>
<symUnique>true</symUnique>
</atom>
</molecule>

...and insert it into another XML document that has the same molecule definition
in it.

I've used various permutations of the following xsl:
<?xml version = "1.0" encoding = "UTF-8"?>
<xsl:stylesheet version = "1.0" xmlns:xsl = "http://www.w3.org/1999/XSL/Transform">
<xsl:output method="xml" indent="yes"/>

<xsl:template match="/">
<IN>
<RUN_TITLE>Methylene...1-A-1 state...RHF/STO-2G</RUN_TITLE>
<CONTRL>
<SCFTYP>RHF</SCFTYP>
</xsl:template>
</xsl:stylesheet>

...but none actually inserts the molecule XML into the INITIAL_STATE element.

Any suggestions? (and thanks in advance!)

Have you done any work with XSLT 2.0?

Have you read the XSLT 2.0 working darft?

Have you read articles about it?

Any one using it in production (meaning Saxon 7.x since that is the only game in town as far as I know)?

Have you have read my book (XSLT Cookbook by O'Reilly)?

How many would buy the 2nd edition of XSLT Cookbook if it covered XSLT 2.0?

xslt praise

Testimonials?

First entry, We have a website where thinking very fowardly we abstracted away from html using an xml web element descriptor DTD that we formulated, loosely based on mozilla's XUL. Yesterday i got the dreaded request from management to provide the printer-friendly version of each page with a simple click.

I knew this was coming even even though it wasn't brough up earilier, and is part of why we like the multi-output format options xslt provided.

Due to our planning ahead, i was able to come up with a site wide solution that is xslt based of course. A simple tag of <print-region> now wraps anything we'd like to have in the resulting print friendly document. a 5 line change to our xslt and voila, the stripping of all navigation leaving only the "meat" of the content, or whatever we put in print-regions.

sweet!

Granted similiar techniques using a print-oriented CSS would also have worked, but i find the xslt approach much cleaner.

I'll post a linky as soon as the feature is out of dev.

Another XSLT question

Hello hello (= Yet again, I'm trying to transform an XML document trying to weed out certain nodes that satisfies certain conditions.

Say I have the following XML document:

<root>
<element attrib="value1">
<element attrib="value3"></element>
</element>

<element attrib="value2">
<element attrib="value4"></element>
<element attrib="value5"></element>
</element>

<do_not_show>
<hide>value3</hide>
<hide>value2</hide>
</do_not_show>
</root>

From above, I'm trying to hide the element whose attrib value equals to "value3" and whose is "value2" and thus also hide its child nodes: value4 and value5. However, it's also possible that <do_not_show> will not have any child nodes and thus will show all the elements.

What I have now that checks whether the element should be displayed or not is:

<xsl:for-each select="element[(/root/settings/disable and attribute::name != /root/settings/child::disable/text()) or (not(/root/settings/disable))]">
<!-- show elements here -->

</xsl:for-each>

The above condition works well if I don't have any <hide> elements or if I only have one <hide> element. The problem is when I have two or more <hide> elements then the parser displays ALL the elements. I'm pretty sure the answer is a simple one but my mind's going blank right now... H-E-L-P! :D

oh yeah. If possible, the solution I'm looking for only requires a modification in the condition statement in the <xsl:for-each> instead of doing a loop for each <element> then perform an <xsl:choose> whether the <hide> element is specified or not then perform another <xsl:for-each> to check if the current text() for <hide> matches the current value for @attrib (=

Getting the number of levels

Hello, everyone (=

Have a teenie weenie question. Say I have the following XML doc:

<root>
<child>
<child>
<child></child>
</child>
</child>
</root>

With XPath v1.0, is there a way to determine how many levels there are for "child" node (in this case 3)? I could think of some other ways of determining it like creating a custom XSLT function (except custom functions is for XLST 2 and the program I'm using is implementing XLST v1.0) so I was wondering if somewhere in the XPath recommendation lies an easier answer :D

--
I'm blind, where's the edit function for the discussion board?

Hi folks I am starting out by trying to build a links list area for my site, and store the links as well as the href tags in the XML. I am running into a snag.

Do I need some sort of escape character in the tag containing the <a href tags? It seems that that the contents of the tag renders fine but doesn't creat a link. Advice?

Haven't read up on XSLT yet so that might be the solution to all me issues. Again just starting, any advice on books or sources are helpful.
Thanks in advance.
